Job Description

In this role, you will:

  • Interface with business leaders as the main IT point of contact accountable for the oversight, planning, upfront intake and analysis of requests from the business requiring IT support.This is accomplished through communication, collaboration, portfolio management, planning and a strategic business and technical outlook. The Technology Business Partner (TBP) will have both business and technical acumen and be intimately familiar with how to build and maintain strong relationships, prioritize competing priorities and execute on delivery commitments. The TBP will work closely with the overall IT team to ensure appropriate resourcing is supplied to meet the needs of corporate and IT initiatives.The TBP will partner with the architecture team to ensure technology direction, principles, and standards are understood, aligned and followed.The TBP will frame and oversee complex initiatives within their business portfolio to ensure successful delivery and business objectives are met.

Your Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Values:
    • Provides Leadership in working to plan and execute on strategy for business value and team growth

    • Visibly support the development and fostering of a defined IT culture, creating a winning brand

  • People Management & Development:
    • Coach and manage the performance of indirect reports, ensuring achievement of business, functional and individual goals

    • Create, promote and support a team environment that encourages productivity, collaboration, diversity, teamwork, and a high level of professionalism

    • Promote the Economical Code of Business Conduct and Values, and model behaviour aligned to these principles

  • Strategy & Planning:
    • Help lead in the development of roadmaps for their domain.Work with their team and peers and across business teams to ensure alignment to Economical's strategic business goals

    • Align business requests and delivery to support execution of these roadmaps

    • Actively manage and monitor progress against the plan, adjusting priorities as required, and regularly communicating progress to key stakeholders

    • Assess and help evolve best practices for the Technology Account Delivery team function, and influence business and technical decisions to align to roadmaps to deliver expected results

  • Key goals and objectives:
    • Facilitate and oversee delivery on all approved project and support activities requested thru the Technology Account Delivery team function

    • Manage overall portfolio delivery of the required business initiatives based on priority and alignment to business and corporate objectives

    • Manage, report and ensure adherence to KPIs, SLAs and SLOs relevant to their domain, application or service

    • Accountable for driving to root cause and completion of all relevant actions items pertinent to their domain to mitigate future occurrences of incidents.

    • Own and manage requests thru IT’s Intake process to ensure an efficient, consistent and effective service

    • Promote continuous improvement within the team for all project and operational accountabilities

    • Collaborate with Management to ensure alignment of priorities, approaches, and activities across teams to effectively deliver on overall IT team objectives

  • Financial Management:
    • May create and manage the functional budget, and report on actual costs and forecast regularly through the fiscal year

    • Ensure adherence personally and within the team to all company financial standards, policies and processes

    • Provide services in the most cost effective manner to meet corporate and customer needs

  • Strong partner:
    • Partnering with the business to thoroughly understand their needs and coordinating with the required IT teams and other business stakeholders to deliver

    • Ensure knowledge of the desired business outcomes in order to provide recommendations for IT Solutions and Services that will be delivered with quality and efficiency

    • Support prioritization of business initiatives to maximize IT investment in alignment with key business drivers

    • Actively manage relationships with the business, IT and outside service providers

Your Skills and Experience

  • Degree in business, computer science or a related discipline is preferred

  • 7+ years of project experience in IT and/or business

  • 3+ years of people management experience

  • Experience in communicating and working with senior leaders

  • Experience in insurance or banking industry

  • Experience working in a dynamic and fast-paced business environment

  • Demonstrated efficiency with facilitation and presentation skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills - ability to communicate at all levels with clarity and precision (verbal & written)

  • Demonstrated ability to drive towards solutions and providing thought leadership

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with business partners, vendors and IT teams to achieve results

  • Proven effective relationship skills with demonstrated ability to influence others and achieve buy-in

  • Ability to multi-task and effectively manage competing and changing priorities while maintaining timelines, quality and meeting customer expectations

  • Experience leading a change management agenda, with proven ability to influence at multiple levels of the organization.

  • Experience in delivering difficult messages

  • Effective negotiation skills

  • Demonstrated outcomes delivering on the Technology Account Delivery team portfolio.

  • Strong drive for action, results oriented, natural sense of urgency

  • Proven experience in effectively working with IT Teams

  • Ability to work effectively in a matrixed or shared services organizational model

  • Ability to work with ambiguity and set plans to achieve clarity

  • Digital Project Management experience is required

Additional Experience is an Asset

  • Leadership experience in a regulated public corporate environment

  • Relevant industry-related certifications are considered an asset. For example: PMP, Six Sigma

  • Portfolio and/or program management experience

  • Practical knowledge of project management techniques, tools, methodologies and best practices

  • Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

  • Mergers, acquisitions, or divestiture experience
