Job Description

In this role:

  • The Director, Technology Vendor Management is accountable for long-term oversight, technology governance, planning and continuous improvement of Vendor Management.This is accomplished through strategic planning, deep industry knowledge, trend insight, and continuous evolution.

  • The Director will be intimately familiar with the various Vendor Management domains including vendor evaluation and selection, setting expectations with vendors to meet enterprise goals, leading vendor communications, handling management escalation processes for issues, leading the IT contract negotiation activities, new contract and renewal activities, monitoring vendor performance, and partnering with the IT Security and EP teams to ensure adherence to company policies.

  • The Director will partner with the resource management team to ensure vendor resources are onboarded with the right skills when required and offboarded when workload dictates following technology direction, principles, and standards.The Director will oversee strategic vendor management initiatives including a tool and process to manage the vendor portfolio data, and design and implementation of a formal vendor governance framework and vendor segmentation framework and action plan, and the formal vendor rationalization strategy.

  • The Director understands the internal and external landscape for standards and practices for Vendor Management and is involved in the planning and execution of the overall IT portfolio deliverables related to this function.

    • Active member of the IT Leadership team, working to define and execute on strategy for business value and team growth.

    • Visibly support the IT Senior Leadership Team in the development and fostering of a defined IT culture, creating a winning brand.

  • People Management & Development
    • Develop, coach and manage the performance of all direct reports, ensuring achievement of business, functional and individual goals.

    • Create, promote and support a team environment that encourages productivity, collaboration, diversity, teamwork, and a high level of professionalism.

    • Promote the Economical Code of Business Conduct and Values, and model behaviour aligned to these principles.

  • Strategy & Planning
    • Participate in the development of a strategic plan for IT.Work with the IT Senior Leadership Team and peers within the IT team and across business teams to ensure alignment to Economical's strategic business goals.

    • Provide updates to the IT Senior Leadership Team and Business Leaders for the function and stay abreast of industry and global trends for the function.

    • Support execution of the strategic plan by defining specific goals and objectives for team members of the Vendor Management function.

    • Actively manage and monitor progress against the plan, adjusting priorities as required, and regularly communicating progress to key stakeholders.

    • Assess, understand, and validate industry trends and best practices for the Vendor Management function, and influence IT strategy to deliver expected results.

  • Key Goals and Objectives
    • Deliver on all approved project and support activities related to the Vendor Management function.

    • Manage execution of the back-up and Disaster Recovery (DR) functions for the Vendor Management function, both in simulation and during triggered DR events.

    • Promote continuous improvement within the team for all project and operational accountabilities.

    • Collaborate with the IT Senior Leadership Team to ensure alignment of priorities, approaches, and activities across teams to effectively deliver on overall IT team objectives.

    • Understand the internal and external landscape for standards and practices for Vendor Management and take part in the planning and execution of the overall IT portfolio deliverables related to this function.

  • Financial Management
    • Create and manage the functional budget, and report on actual costs and forecast regularly through the fiscal year.

    • Ensure adherence personally and within the team to all company financial standards, policies and processes.

    • Provide services in the most cost effective manner to meet corporate and customer needs.

  • Strategic Partner
    • Partner with business teams to deliver on vendor contracted deliverables.

    • Ensure knowledge of the desired business outcomes in order to provide recommendations for IT Solutions and Services that will be delivered with quality and efficiency.

    • Support prioritization of business initiatives to maximize IT investment in alignment with key business drivers.

    • Actively manage relationships with outside service providers.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Degree in computer science, information systems or a related discipline is preferred.

  • 10+ years of experience in IT.

  • 5+ years of people management experience.

  • 3+ years leading a Vendor Management team.

  • Solid knowledge of Vendor Management practices.

  • Demonstrated strong partnership skills with numerous vendors.

  • Experience in insurance or banking industry.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with business partners, vendors and IT teams to achieve results.

  • Ability to multi-task and effectively manage competing priorities and timelines.

  • Experience leading a change management agenda, with proven ability to influence at multiple levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated outcomes delivering on the Vendor Management agenda.

Additional Experience is an Asset

  • Leadership experience in a regulated public corporate environment.

  • Mergers, acquisitions, or divestiture experience.
